October Sky is the true-life story of West Virginian high school student Homer Hickham who was inspired by the 1957 launch of Sputnik to build and launch his own rocket.

Homer included (in his book) everything: from building the missile as part of a science project, to the first (disastrous) attempts to launch it, to the tentative first flight in front of the inquisitive locals.

Fighting Homer all the way is his father (Chris Cooper), a fiercely proud supervisor at the local coal mine who expects his son to follow in his footsteps, and cannot understand for one minute the boy's fascination with something so fantastical as space travel. But Homer refuses to give up, often clashing with his father and practically tearing his family apart in the pursuit of his dream.

This superb novel was set in Coalwood, West Virginia. This setting was critical to the whole point of the book, without any mines how could his dad become a mine supervisor? How would Homer spot the satellite (Sputnik) if he weren't in the Appalachian area of the US? So we can conclude that if Homer's autobiography would be set in a different place, for instance LA, he probably couldn't see the satellite because of the polluted air, there wouldn't much of a bustling mining industry, he wouldn't be known in his town. So Coalwood is the perfect place that Homer set his bio, quite obviously  where he lived.

With the help of his friends and colleagues, he was noticed by NASA for constructing and launching successful rocket missions, and to

Turlington's Dog and The Waterslide are both comedy/funny stories. The narrator grabs your attention immediately, by starting each story with important details and information. In my opinion, 'Turlingtons Dog' was funnier because it grabbed my attention quicker and it wasn't too long of repetiteve and it appealed to me. I would relate more towards Turlington's Dog more because of the same reasons stated above. I would sypethesize the most toward the 'old man' and 'Mr. Turlington' in both stories because they were not excpecting what they were getting. I would recommend both stories for a friend because they were both simple ideas that were made funny. My favourite book genre is factual/non fiction, but I would never turn down a comedy, dramatic piece, as I love to laugh

About a year ago, Harry and Larry were home alone and were very bored. So they decided that they would do something, something fun! Larry was that kid in the class that wouldn't pay attention, and Harry
was the guy that was bright but just wouldn't be bothered to do anything.
" Lets do something" Harry broke the silence.
"OK" replied Larry, "It better be fun."
They stood there in the long silence not knowing what to do. Harry then made a move to the door, and signalled Larry to follow him. They grabbed the keys to the parked car in the carport. He unlocked it, and got in, turning the ignition. The engine roared, scaring both kids. Then Larry questioned the desicion,
"Are you sure this is a good idea?"
" Definite" responded Harry.
At that moment they saw their parents walking up to the house.
"Oh no.".

The connection beetween the story "Sniper" and Pat Tillman are as follows: These two   characters have very much in common, for instance they're both fighting in a war, representing what they bellieve is good. They are both really brave and couragous and want to defeat their enemy. Pat represents a war for peace of two countries and the sniper; the battle of two snipers for land.

Q. Does war distort human realationships, chose a song and explain why it is related to the question?
I chose the song "Wide Awake" by Katy Perry. I chose it because in war you are more or less alone and by yourself. You feel like you'vefallen into a deep dark hole. If you watch the music video and listen to the lyrics you will understand how she feels the same way. She also is isolated from everything and tries very hard to break through the 'brick wall,' but this isn't always the case with soldiers who have post stress order.
