Hypothesis
Hypothesis of the egg in the red water: If diffusion and osmosis across a selectively permeable membrane are related to the substance the membrane is submersed in, then an egg submersed in water will turn red and swell as a result of the diffusion of water (osmosis) in the egg.
Hypothesis of the egg in the red corn syrup:
If diffusion and osmosis across a selectively permeable membrane are related to the substance the membrane is submersed in, then an egg submersed in corn syrup will turn red and will not swell as a result of the diffusion of water (osmosis) in the egg.
Independent variable:
Substances eggs are in.
Dependent variable:
Effect on the egg in the substances.
Controlled variables:
What substances the eggs are in.
How long the eggs are refrigerated.
The temperature.
