Procedure
- Collect all the materials you have chosen to conduct for this lab.
- Take the spoon and try to contain most of the visible oil to one side.
- Dispose the spoon.
- Then use the paper towels to absorb and contain the oil . You do this by moving them to one side repeatedly until the towel is soaked.
- Place the paper towels in the 250mL beaker.
- Sprinkle the vinegar and baking soda over the solution in the washbasin, especially the parts that you can see are blotted with oil.
- Pour the laundry soap over the washbasin again, making sure all of the solution is covered.
- After this squeeze the paper towels in the 250mL beaker.
- Dispose them.
- In the beaker you should get an approximate reading of how much oil was absorbed. (Keep in mind that the paper towels absorb water too).
- Record and take pictures of your results.
- Clean up after yourself.
